Construction began after World War II, in the Spring of 1946, on the site earlier known as The Ashburn Farm. The farm had been in the Ashburn family for over 150 years. The Tides Inn opened to the public on July 15th, 1947.

The Inn began as a vision of E. A. Stephens with his wife, “Miss Ann,” and soon established itself as the premier Small Hotel in the Mid-Atlantic. After three generations of Stephens’ family stewardship, The Tides Inn was purchased and is managed by Enchantment Group. After extensive renovations, the Tides Inn enters a new era as a premier small resort in America.
